Mithila Organika was born from a simple idea — to make Makhana (Foxnuts/Lotus seeds), the ancient superfood of Bihar, available to the world in its purest, most premium form.
Rooted in the heart of Mithilanchal (Northern Bihar), we’ve built a close-knit network with local farmers, ensuring that every seed of Makhana is ethically sourced and sustainably processed.
To make Makhana the next Coffee... that’s the dream we’re chasing at Mithila Organika. You’ve heard of Coorg’s coffee, Manipuri black rice, or Darjeeling’s tea — all celebrated for their origin and quality. But Mithila Makhana is still waiting for its moment.
Today, Makhana is mostly judged by its size and shape, often by traders/middlemen who know little about the crop. Ironically, the smaller or flatter pieces — usually thrown away — are actually crispier and tastier, yet are deemed "unfit" by a flawed system.
At Mithila Organika, we believe Makhana deserves the same respect that Coffee has earned, and should be valued for not just for how it looks, but for where and how it's grown and processed.
Its real value lies in its origin and geography, climate and soil conditions, moisture, popping method, storage condition, among others…
Pokhariya Makhana —
Sourced directly from the Mithilanchal region, Pokhariya Makhana has earned GI (Geographical Indicator) tag and is known for its superior texture, high nutritional value, and delicate crunch. Grown with traditional farming methods and harvested with care, it’s the heart of everything we create at Mithila Organika.
Gaurav, an alumnus of IIT Patna, brings deep-rooted passion for sustainability and local empowerment. With a strong belief in the untapped potential of India's traditional superfoods, he co-founded Mithila Organika to bridge the gap between farmers and global consumers — starting with the pride of Mithila: Makhana.
Deepak, an alumnus of IIT BHU and IIM Ahmedabad, combines strategic vision with operational excellence. With experience across business and brand building, Deepak is on a mission to elevate Makhana to the global stage — not just as a snack, but as a cultural and nutritional revolution.
